In October 2019, Hong Kong erupted into a nationwide protest against the
Extradition Law Amendment Bill which would greatly impede their freedom. The police brutality displayed during these riots captured the attention of the world as Hong Kong riot police were shown storming buildings, using tear gas and bullets, and more.
A bit further from international news outlets, Indonesian students protested against a new legislation in September the same year which made it easier for government corruption to slip through the cracks, as well as other unfair laws. Also in October were the Chilean protests demanding that President Piñera resign. Both initially peaceful movements were also hit back with the violence of the respective country’s police.
Various posters were created digitally, inspired by the style of World War II and Cultural Revolution propaganda, tagged with honorable slogans adopted by each country’s respective police force mottos. The video projected over these posters on the wall is a collage consisting of real videos taken at these various protests that were uploaded onto various social media platforms.
